Tennis Canada – Quebec City, September 9, 2016 – Organizers of the National Bank Cup presented by National Bank Cup confirmed Friday that Eugenie Bouchard (Montreal, QC) will play her first round match in Quebec during the evening session on Wednesday September 14 against Mandy Minella of Luxembourg.

Bouchard, who practiced at PEPS for the first time Thursday morning, is making a return to the National Bank Cup after reaching the semifinals in 2013. The world no. 39 won her first WTA title on clay in Nurnberg in 2014. The 22-year-old has also reach five WTA finals, including two this year in Hobart and in Kuala Lumpur.

Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) will play on opening night on Monday September 12 against American Jessica Pegula, ranked no. 138 in the world. The 29-year-old will be playing in her ninth National Bank Cup main draw and making her twelfth appearance at the tournament overall. Wozniak is a two-time semifinalist in Quebec in 2008 and 2009. Wozniak will be looking to avenge the 6-2, 6-2 loss she suffered at the hands of Pegula earlier this summer in Washington.

For her part, Françoise Abanda (Montreal, QC) will play on Tuesday September 13 during the evening session against Germany’s Mona Barthel. Barthel is ranked no. 96 in the world and reached a career-high of no. 23 in 2013. Currently ranked no. 226 in the world, Abanda will be appearing in her third consecutive National Bank Cup main draw and she will be trying to reach the second round for the first time. Last year she was defeated by Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and in 2014 she fell to Venus Williams.

Qualifying matches will get underway on Saturday at 10 a.m. and are free for the public. Canadians Charlotte Robillard-Millette, Catherine Leduc, and Mireille Moreau will all be in action.
