Canadian Sport Institute Ontario – Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) congratulates The Honourable Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport on a successful 2017 Ontario Sport Symposium.

Hosted at the historic Boulevard Club in downtown Toronto, it was an informative day of learning and sharing amongst 200 leaders in Ontario’s sport sector emceed by Canadian Olympic Boxer, Mary Spencer. The day focused on updates on Game ON, The Ontario Government’s Sport Plan and progress within the industry. Excellent panel discussions included the topics of women and girls in sport initiatives, Rowan’s Law and concussion research; and highlights of upcoming Games in Ontario – the 2017 North American Indigenous Games, the 2017 Invictus Games, and the 2021 Canada Games to be hosted in the Niagara Region.

Breakout sessions focused on a range of topics including furthering the relationship between recreation and sport; advancing indigenous sport; building provincial sport organizational capacity through evaluation metrics, best practices in Games hosting; sponsorship opportunities; and evolving the Parasport movement, of which CSIO’s CEO Debbie Low sat on the panel.

The Ontario Sport Symposium keynote address was from 2-Time Olympic Champion, Rosie MacLennan. Rosie spoke of her journey and how living and training in Ontario, and how access to expert coaching, support staff, and venues provided her with the support to excel in her sport.

CSIO was proud to be part of such an impactful day and looks forward to continuing the conversations and great work that the Ontario Sport Symposium continues to generate in the Ontario sport sector.
