Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec – as part of its program with the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec

Montreal, April 6, 2016 – Cascades CEO Mario Plourde has announced the renewal of the Cascades- Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec partnership with the investment of $300,000 for a period of three years, starting in 2017. Mr. Plourde also revealed the recipients of the 2016 Cascades Bursary Program. As part of the 12th edition of the partnership, 19 athletes aged 16 to 25 shared a total of $67,500 in Academic Excellence, Academic and Athletic Support, Perseverance and Leadership bursaries.

Since the Cascades Bursary Program was implemented, in 2005, it has known spectacular success. Several Cascades bursary recipients have gone on to shine at national, international and Olympic levels, and have been crowned Olympic gold medallists, Senior and Junior world title-holders, PanAmerican champions and Canadian champions.

“Promoting health and healthy living has always been at the core of the initiatives Cascades has implemented for its employees,” says Mr. Plourde. “In supporting amateur sports and young student-athletes through the Cascades Bursary Program, we make it possible for them to pursue their academic careers all while aiming for athletic excellence. These young athletes are role models for our society, because they will go on to be the leaders of tomorrow. Once again this year, we are immensely proud to team up with the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec for this program.”

The Fondation’s president, Claude Chagnon, is pleased to count on Cascades’ continued support. “For the past 11 years, Cascades has contributed to make a difference in the academic and athletic careers of Quebec’s young student-athletes. FAEQ recognizes the importance of its partners, and is proud to be able to rely on Cascades, a loyal partner of so many years. We are delighted and proud to see Cascades and the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec united for success, through to 2019.”
