Volleyball Canada – Brno, Czech Republic, June 24, 2017 – With both Canada and Poland winning their matches on Saturday, the two unbeaten teams will advance to the round of eight from their pool at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.

Earlier today, Canada defeated Morocco. Tariq Sani was the main contributor to Canada’s 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-23) shutout on the second competition day in Pool A of the tournament.

Canada’s coach Gino Brousseau: “A win is a win, but we did not play the same as yesterday (in their victory over Czech Republic). We did not have much rest between the two matches because today we played at 12h30. The intensity was not the same and sometimes we did not respect the game plan, so it was easier for our opponents.”

Sani was the match top scorer with 20 points. Youssef Aatata was Morocco’s top scorer with 11 points.

Morocco wasted a comfortable lead it had through a big part of the first set to allow Canada back into the game and to a 25-23 win. With Tariq Sani on fire in attack, Canada had complete control of the scoreboard during the second set and closed it off at 25-16. Sani’s prolific spiking continued in set three, but now Youssef Aatata was also very efficient in offense after he came back into the match. Towards the end of the set the Moroccans almost caught up, but the North Americans managed to score for 25-23 to close the match.

Canada and Poland meet on Sunday at 12:30 local time – 6:30 am Eastern – in their final pool play contest..
