Diving Plongeon Canada – DUBAI –  Lysanne Richard of Montreal took fifth spot at the seventh and final stop on the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series to finish second in the overall women’s standings in her first full season on the circuit.

This season Richard earned two victories, two silver medals and a bronze along with two fifth place finishes to compile 1,030 points on the circuit. One of her fifth place finishes was at the final stop held under the lights Friday at the Dubai Harbour.

Rhiannan Iffland of Australia won the Dubai event to clinch the season crown with 1,290 points.

Richard, also the FINA World Cup champion in 2016, admits she wasn’t at her best in the final event.

‘’It was my worst competition of the year,’’ said Richard. ‘’Certainly this event had a lot of challenges but I don’t want to use that as an excuse. It was great experience to dive at this beautiful venue in a spectacular setting.’’

The fifth place won’t dampen her great season.

‘’Highs and lows are part of the game,’’ she said. ‘’This year besides winning five medals I earned the highest score of my career and I earned a world’s best score for one dive in particular. I foresee thing only getting better in 2017.’’

The 2017 season will be particularly busy for the 35-year-old Richard who is coached by Stéphane Lapointe.

‘’As was the case this year I expect to battle for the Red Bull crown, I also look forward to defending my World Cup title and competing at the FINA World Championships. There are also a lot new objectives and can’t wait to get back to Montreal and start training again.’’

Richard qualified for the 2016 women’s World Series with an overall fifth in 2015. As a graduate from the National Circus School of Montreal, Richard juggles her job as a character and acrobat at Cirque du Soleil, being a successful cliff diver and a mother of three.
