Diving – BUENOS AIRES –  Bryden Hattie of Victoria took eighth spot on men’s three-metre on Sunday in diving action at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Daniel Garcia of Colombia won the gold medal with 576.05 points, Anthony Harding of Britain was second at 559.50 and Ruslan Ternovoi of Russia third at 551.20.

Hattie was fourth in the preliminaries with 517.95 points but dropped to 504.50 in the final for eighth spot. The big difference between the two rounds for Hattie was his back two and half. He earned 64.50 for it in the prelims and 49.50 in the final.

‘’It’s a dive that’s been good for me all week in practice as well,’’ sad Hattie, 17, a member of Canada’s Commonwealth Games team this past spring. ‘’It’s a bit frustrating to miss it in the final like that. But overall I’ve had a super week. To compete in front of such a large crowd with both sides of the stands filled was a thrill.’’

Competition continues Monday with the women’s three-metre. Mélodie Leclerc of Montreal is Canada’s entry. Leclerc was seventh on 10-m on Saturday.
