Alpine Canada – Calgary, Alta. (December 22, 2017) – In the final race of the Cross Alps Tour, Georgia Simmerling (Vancouver, B.C.), battled all day to hit the podium again, finishing in third-place. Simmerling skied well all day, making great passes and holding down leading runs. Simmerling snagged third-place with a photo finish, reaching to beat out her competition by a finger tip.

The injected track held up well for two days of racing and Simmerling showed consistency with back-to-back podiums after finishing in second-place yesterday. She’ll close out the Cross Alps Tour with two podium finishes, and four top-five finishes.

Simmerling had Canadian company in the top eight with Britt Phelan (Mont Tremblant, Que.) finishing in sixth-place. Both Simmerilng and Phelan moved through to their quarterfinal heats but Phelan was unable to join Simmerling in the big final. Phelan showed great skiing today battling tough competition in the small final. Phelan was the 2017 FIS Freestyle Rookie of the Year and has showed her summer training continues to pay off this season making the top-eight four times, including a podium finish in Arosa, SUI.  

Kelsey Serwa (Kelowna, B.C.) and India Sherret (Cranbrook, B.C.) both qualified for today’s race but mistakes kept them from advancing past the quarterfinals. Sherret won the 2017 Nor-Am Cup title and has been showing great promise on the World Cup circuit. The 21-year-old has had a great Cross Alps Tour with fast qualifying runs showing her potential.

On the men’s side, Kevin Drury (Toronto, Ont.) was the lone Canadian to move through the quarterfinals and into the semi-finals. Drury found himself in the small final finishing in eighth-place today. Drury claimed one podium, a second-place finish in Arosa, SUI, on the Cross Alps Tour.

Brady Leman, Chris Del Bosco, Ian Deans, Kevin MacDonald, Dave Duncan and Mathieu Leduc all qualified for today’s race but were unable to move past their first heats.

The team now heads home for a break over the holidays and will be back in Europe for the last stretch of races before they return to Canada for the FIS Ski Cross World Cup at Nakiska on January 20th, 2018.
