Archery Canada – OTTAWA – Three men and one woman have been selected to represent Canada in the 2017 World Championships and will join the already announced Compound team for the October 15 – 22 event in Mexico City. As the only eligible woman to meet Archery Canada’s minimum Recurve qualifying scores, Georcy-Stéphanie Thiffeault Picard was selected, and will join Crispin Duenas, Hamilton Nguyen, and Brian Maxwell, who were selected as the Recurve men’s team.

For Maxwell and Nguyen, this will be their first World Championships, while Thiffeault Picard will compete in her third Worlds. For Duenas, who reached the podium with an individual bronze medal performance at the World Cup in Berlin just 3 weeks ago, this will be his seventh Senior World Championships. Currently ranked 13th in the world, Duenas has been quietly making his way back up the World Archery ranking list , after reaching his best World Championship result in 2013 winning bronze.

As the lone woman , Thiffeault Picard, rankd number 1 in Canada, will be focusing on a solid ranking round to establish a good position in the women’s elimination draw and also to help Canada qualify for a spot in the important mixed team competition, which has recently been announced as a new medal event in Tokyo 2020.

Maxwell, currently ranked 3rd in Canada, competed well in Shanghai earlier this year in his first World Cup and will look to build on his recent successes in North America. Nguyen, ranked 2nd in Canada, and a member of all 3 World Cup teams in 2017, has elevated his performance steadily through the year and most recently finished 17th at the World Cup in Berlin. Along with Duenas, who will anchor the men’s team, Canada’s three men will look to go deep in both the individual and team competitions.

As during the Shanghai and Berlin World Cups, Shawn Riggs will take on the role of lead coach for Canada. The Recurve team will arrive in Mexico City on October 13th.
