2.1 GENERAL

Reporting to the GymCan CEO and working in conjunction with the Sr. Coordinator Rhythmic Gymnastics, the Senior National Team Group Coach, and the various national technical and high-performance committees, the National Team Director – RG is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Canadian National Team RG Program. The National Team Director has a hands-on role in overall athlete development programs and establishes program direction in accordance with the GymCan Strategic Plan.

2.2 SPECIFIC

NATIONAL TEAM

  • Establish a high-performance environment that prepares Senior and Junior National Team individual and group athletes and coaches for peak performance at major international competitions leading up to Olympic Games.
  • In collaboration with the CEO and Sr. Coordinator hire a National Team Group Coach for the centralized group program
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of annual and quadrennial training and competition plans for the RG Individual and Group National Team members in conjunction with the National Team Group Coach and the personal coaches and the RG IST (sport science support team).
  • As the National Team Director, lead the provision of appropriate coaching and IST services for Senior National Team individual and group athletes for major international assignments as required.
  • With assistance from the Sr. Coordinator-RG, the RG Program Committee, and the Selection Working Group, lead the development of selection criteria for the national team individual and national team group, for specific international competitions and for the Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program.
  • With the assistance of the Sr. Coordinator-RG and GymCan staff, ensure appropriate files on athlete status, athlete training, competition results, and monitoring of progress are kept as required, and are communicated as required.
  • Lead the monitoring and annual performance evaluation process of the RG Senior National Team Program Individual and Group and contribute to the documentation and presentation requirements to funding and performance partners (Sport Canada AAP & Own the Podium)
  • Work with the National Team Group Coach, personal coaches, assigned GymCan staff, judges, and RG IST staff in providing a consistent and progressive athlete-centered high-performance environment.
  • Manage the monthly scheduling and communication of the High-Performance Training Centre with HP coaches/clubs.
  • Respect and ensure the adherence to GymCan’s Safe Sport policies in all aspects of decision making and planning.

ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT

  • Work closely with the Sr. Coordinator-RG and the RG Working Group Lead to oversee the implementation of the Aspire athlete talent identification and monitoring system.
  • Work closely with the Sr. Coordinator-RG and in conjunction with key technical personnel from the Provincial/Territorial partners to oversee the development and monitoring of the RG Developmental Program and to formulate an RG “Podium Pathway.”

COACHING DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide leadership/mentorship to all coaches working closely with the National Senior and Junior Teams Individual & Group.
  • Act as a resource person for coach development relating to advanced high-performance coaching education programs and advance coaching education.

SPORT SCIENCE AND RESEARCH (INTEGRATED SUPPORT TEAM)

  • Work with the Sr. Coordinator RG and the RG IST staff to ensure that the sport science research needs of the RG Senior National Team Individual and Group are managed effectively.
  • Lead in the implementation of appropriate high-performance athlete performance monitoring and measuring systems, in conjunction with assigned IST professionals.

JUDGE DEVELOPMENT

  • In collaboration with Sr. Coordinator-RG and Judge working group assist in the development and implementation of a national education/certification program and evaluation system for judges.
  • In collaboration with National Team coaches and Brevet Judges, coordinate the judge assignments to international competitions.

EVENT SUPPORT

  • In collaboration with Sr. Coordinator RG, GymCan staff and local organizing committees ensure that the technical requirements are in place for GymCan events (Elite Canada, Canadian Championships, East and West Regionals)
  • Provide technical oversight for GymCan domestic events.
  • Provide technical support at major international team competitions (individual & group)

ADMINISTRATION

  • Support the Sr. Coordinator RG on submissions, reports, communication, and other requirements that are necessary to the continued support and development of the RG high-performance and development programs.
  • Engage as required with the GymCan technical staff and GymCan members and partners in meetings and activities that relate to the overall GymCan high-performance programming environment.
  • Support the Sr. Coordinator RG on the development, monitoring, and reporting for the RG program budget.
