Rowing Canada – Rowing Canada Aviron names 26 athletes to compete from May 27 – 29

 
VICTORIA, Friday, May 20, 2016 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) today announced the seven crews who will compete at World Rowing Cup II in Lucerne, Switzerland from May 27 – 29. The regatta will take place following the FISA Final Olympic Qualification Regatta where the men’s quadruple sculls aim to qualify the seventh and final Canadian boat.
 
World Cup II will be the final international competition for Canadian rowers prior to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
 
The A-finals of the World Rowing Cup will be streamed live on the World Rowing website. The A-finals will also be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet One on Sunday, May 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (ET).
 
Last week, RCA announced the men’s quadruple sculls will contend for a spot at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games from May 22 – 24. Following the Final Olympic Qualifier, Julien Bahain, Will Dean, Rob Gibson and Pascal Lussier will then compete at the second World Cup.
 
“This is just one more step in achieving our goal of representing Canada at the Olympics this summer,” said Rob Gibson, men’s quadruple sculls. “Coming into this season, we knew what it would to take to get to Rio. We challenged ourselves through the offseason and after a good start to the season at the first World Cup, we’re expecting to secure our spot.”
 
Canada qualified six boats for the Olympic Games and one for the Paralympic Games at the World Rowing Championships in September 2015.
 
RCA, alongside the Canadian Olympic Committee, will announce the team of athletes competing at the Rio 2016 Olympics on Tuesday, June 28 in Toronto. RCA will also host media availabilities at training camps in Guelph and London, Ontario on July 23. Details for all media events will be released closer to the date.
