Team Manitoba – Winnipeg, MB – The first day of competition at Canada Summer Games saw four Manitoba teams in action with male and female basketball, baseball, and male softball hitting the court or field. At the end of the day, Team Manitoba claimed victory in three-of-five contests. There were three games today played against Nova Scotia with male softball, male basketball, and baseball facing the maritime province.
The Team Manitoba male softball team, hailing from Cross Lake, MB, began competition early in the afternoon by capturing a 17-3 win over PEI at John Blumberg Softball Complex. In evening action, the softball squad played for a second time but was unable to win its second in a row. Nova Scotia won 7-2 over Manitoba.

On another ball diamond across the city, the Team Manitoba baseball team also faced a squad from Nova Scotia. The hosts were able to score a decisive 11-1 win over Nova Scotia at Elmwood Giants Park in this contest.

On the court, male and female basketball tipped off minutes apart in separate downtown venues. The female basketball team battled Ontario at Duckworth Centre falling short 70-60 to their provincial neighbours to the east. Meanwhile, Team Manitoba’s male basketball team faced Nova Scotia at the newly opened Canada Games Sport For Life Centre. Despite trailing at half time, Team Manitoba battled back to prevail over Nova Scotia, 88-83.

A full slate of competition on Day Two of Canada Summer Games will feature Team Manitoba athletes in female soccer, male and female beach volleyball, male and female, basketball, male softball, baseball, male and female mountain bike cross country, and sailing, which takes place in Gimli, MB.
