New program provides no-cost video production for sport organizations around COVID-19

OTTAWA, May 14, 2020 — The Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC), alongside knowledge mobilization partner inMotion are pleased to launch a new program providing video storytelling opportunities to support sport organizations’ communications efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible sport organizations can apply to produce one 30-second video, valued at $5,000. Each organization’s video could be used to share its key educational messages publicly, or internally with members and athletes.

“SIRC is committed to building capacity within the sport and physical activity sector, including helping organizations connect with their stakeholders in a meaningful way,” said SIRC CEO & President, Debra Gassewitz. “Communication within the sport community during this pandemic is critically important.”

The look and feel of each video may vary, including options for a bilingual approach. Production could involve a short script, recording done at home with a spokesperson’s phone or computer, along with supporting graphics and transitions to make it a polished final product.

“A short video brings a human touch to how you communicate about your COVID-19 response,” said inMotion president Jamie McIntosh. “People are longing to connect in these self-isolating times.”

Up to 15 free video opportunities are available. Only not-for-profits from Canada’s sport and physical activity sector are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to SIRC subscribers.

Interested organizations are invited to contact Peter Morrow, SIRC’s Knowledge Mobilization & Communications Specialist, and fill out the application form. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2020, while quantities last.
