Manitoba Badminton Association – Yonex 2019 Junior/U23 National Championship

The Junior National Championships are well underway at the Canada Games Sport for Life Center. Opening ceremonies took place on Monday, May 20th and speakers included Ryan Giesbrecht, Executive Director of Badminton Manitoba, Barrington Nichols, President of Badminton Manitoba’s Board of Directors, Chris White, Member-at-large of Badminton Canada’s Board of Directors, Jeff Hnatiuk, President of Sport Manitoba, and Brian Mayes, City of Winnipeg Councillor for the St.Vital ward.

Early round competition started on Monday afternoon and is still ongoing, with main draw quarter-finals set to start Thursday afternoon. Manitobans are still in the hunt for titles in several categories. 

Competition today should wrap up around 6:00pm, and athletes will be attending the Athlete’s Banquet this evening. The day’s draws can be found here : https://badmintoncanada.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=6F9EA5E2-8CB6-4C09-A133-9FD0B71964A7.

While athletes enjoy an evening off competition, many coaches will be furthering their knowledge by attending the Coaches’ Banquet and Conference, which will be held at the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. This is one of several professional development opportunities being offered to coaches throughout the week.
