Two OPDL teams qualify to compete on the world’s stage

Two Ontario Player Development League teams have qualified for the Gatorade 5v5 Global Finals and will now compete with over 20 other countries on the world stage. 

This year saw two new finalists, as Oakville SC and hosts United FA won their respective competitions over the weekend and, as well as receiving a Gatorade Sweat Test, they will now travel to Madrid, Spain as the Canadian representative in the Global final.

The primary goals of Club Licensing are to set clearly defined standards and expectations, recognize excellence in the soccer community, raise the level of all soccer organizations and finally, drive change in the soccer community.

The launch of FIFA eSports Platform

Driven by membership input and consultation, Ontario Soccer is in the process of further exploring eSports possibilities and implications for the growth of soccer in Ontario. 

Following up on the recent FIFA 19 eSports tournament, held at the 2019 Ontario Soccer Summit, in conjunction with Northern Arena, Ontario Soccer would like to extend to all interested members the opportunity to engage in upcoming eSports events throughout the spring and summer.

Canada to play Mexico at BMO Field in Toronto on May 18

Canadians will have the opportunity to see Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team live in action before the team departs on its mission to bring home the top prize in women’s football – the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy. 

Canada will face Mexico on Saturday, May 18 at BMO Field in Toronto. Tickets are now sale.

2019 Futsal Canadian Championship schedule announced

Canada Soccer has unveiled the competition schedule for the 2019 Futsal Canadian Championship to be held April 11-14, 2019 and streamed live on CanadaSoccer.com from Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. 

The competition will feature two teams from Ontario and as well as champions from Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Yukon and Nunavut.

Be part of Female Leadership Day on April 14

Ontario Soccer believes in the need to develop our next generation of female leaders on and off the pitch. 

Hosted in partnership with the Durham Region Soccer Association (DRSA), the Female Leadership Day will be the second of its kind, following the success of the first event held in Brampton (hosted in partnership with Brams United Girls Soccer Club).

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce the launch of its new registration platform, which will serve to connect soccer in the province like never before. 

Ontario Soccer Club & Academy Registry (OSCAR), previously referred to as the Member Management Registration System, has been built in association with SportsEngine, the Official Technology Partner of Ontario Soccer and will now let Clubs and Academies connect their real-time participation registration data on a single platform.

London Athletic Canadian FC win U-18 Boys Ontario Futsal Cup

The U-18 Boys Ontario Futsal Cup final saw the Kitchener Academy taking on London Athletic Canadian FC in a game that would come down to the final minute. 

With London leading by two in the final minutes, Kitchener drew to within one and would press to find the equalizer.

GTA Futsal come from behind to win Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup

The Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup featured GTA Futsal taking on Ottawa Gloucester Celtic for the right to advance to the Futsal Canadian Championships. 

Ottawa jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before GTA Futsal battled back and made it an incredibly close affair.

Hamilton United Elite SC hold on to win U-18 Girls Ontario Futsal Cup

Hamilton would lead for much of the match but the final would come down to the dying moments as Mississauga pressed to tie it.

The 2019 Ontario Futsal Cup wrapped up for three divisions this weekend at Durham College in Oshawa. 

The campus played host to the U-18 Boys and Girls, as well as the Men’s final, on a day that brought numerous special moments as three titles were captured.

Ontario match official selected for CONCACAF PORE

Cole Shoemaker (BC), Brad Doubrough (ON) and Sebastian Noshinravani (QC) have been selected to the CONCACAF Program of Referee Excellence (PORE).

Roll-out of Canada Soccer’s Club Licensing Program continues

Ontario Soccer is preparing to roll-out the Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program across the province. 

The roll-out includes workshops that are available for Districts, Leagues, Club and Academies. 

Applications to join the Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program will open in March 2019.

Cheque payments moving to Electronic Payments via EFT

Ontario Soccer has reviewed the time it takes to process payments to members and suppliers. In addition, Ontario Soccer has reviewed with our bankers, the incidence of an increased potential for fraud in relation to the preparation and distribution of paper cheques. 

Accordingly, Ontario Soccer are transitioning all payments made by cheque to electronic payments.

Ontario Soccer releases 2019-2021 Strategic Plan

Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce its, Board of Directors approved, new Strategic Plan for 2019-2021, which will serve as a road map for soccer in the province over the next three years. 

The Strategic Plan will focus on four key areas of the sport and within those areas, each have three Strategic Initiatives where Ontario Soccer will look at tackling opportunities on and off the field.
