SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – Michael Yusypchuk (Edmonton, AB) and Matthew Donnision (Niagara Falls, ON) tossed a combined no-hitter as the Junior National Team picked up their first win at the WBSC Americas U18 Baseball World Cup Qualifier, defeating Peru, 11-1.

Canada 11-1 Peru

Yusypchuk was the starter for Canada and worked six full innings of no hits and no earned runs while striking out seven. The right-hander was nothing but dominant in this start despite Peru getting on the board early in the first inning thanks to a couple defensive miscues. Matthew Donnison (Niagara Falls, ON) came in from the bullpen in the bottom of the seventh and worked a perfect one, two, three inning to secure the win.

Sam Shaw (Victoria, BC) led the Junior National Team’s offence collecting a pair of doubles, a single and a home run while driving in and astounding six runs. The second baseman would finish a triple short of the cycle in his 4-for-4 performance that also included a stolen base, and a hit by pitch. Ty Hamilton (Orleans, ON) collected a hit in three at bats driving a pair runs in the late innings while Cardel Dick (Abbotsford, BC) also had a good day at the dish, finishing the day 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Canada will close out Opening Round play on Tuesday, November 8th when they take on the United States at 6PM ET.
