U-18 World Cup: Canada records their first win downing South Africa
SARASOTA, FL – The Junior National Team got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first inning and never looked back to lock in their first win of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup prevailing over South Africa, 5-2.

Elliot Cadieux-Lanoue (St-Pie, QC) was the starting pitcher for Canada working a solid five and two thirds innings striking out six and making only one mistake one a two-run homer for South Africa’s only two runs.
Myles Naylor (Mississauga, ON) and Keegan O’Hearn (Oshawa, ON) led Canada’s offence going 2-for-3 and 2-for-2 respectively, both collecting an RBI for their squad.
Contributions came from everywhere in the lineup in this one as seven of the nine Canadian starters collected at least one hit. Tyrus Hall (Victoria, BC) had a notable appearance at the plate, coming up clutch in the bottom of the sixth where he added a big insurance run to put Canada ahead 5-2. He would finish the day 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
Ty Hamilton (Orleans, ON) came into the game in the top of the sixth looking for a four-out save to lock in the first win. The left-hander allowed only one hit over his inning and a one third innings of work, striking out one batter in the process.
Canada will conlcude Opening Round play on Wednesday, September 14th at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota against Korea with the first pitch set for 9AM ET.
