O’ Canada! David Morland IV Leads Final Four Players into 2019 Shaw Charity Classic Field

Canada’s David Morland IV will lead the final four players into the Shaw Charity Classic field after winning Tuesday’s qualifier at Elbow Springs Golf Club.

The 50-year-old from Aurora, Ont., who also qualified to play in last week’s Boeing Classic, was the low man with a 6-under 66.

“One of my goals on the PGA TOUR was to have a chance to win the Canadian Open and now the Shaw Charity Classic is the closest thing we have to that, so it’ll be pretty special to play on home soil,” said Morland IV. “I turned 50 in April and the first few qualifiers, I missed by two, missed by one and then I got into the British Senior Open and British Senior PGA.”

Brian Cooper and Grant Waite matched scores at 68 to secure their spots in the field. Scott Pieri locked up the final tee time in the 78-man field after winning the first playoff hole with a birdie. Pieri, Guy Boros and Patrick Sheehan were all deadlocked at 69 after 18 holes.

Complete qualifying results can be found by clicking here.

Canadian Success

Several current PGA TOUR Champions players have enjoyed prior success in Canada with victories at the RBC Canadian Open as well as the Air Canada Championship, an event no longer on the PGA TOUR schedule. Among the players in the Shaw Charity Classic field with wins at the RBC Canadian Open are Mark Calcavecchia (2005), Billy Andrade (1998), Steve Jones (1997, 1989), Mark O’Meara (1995), Vijay Singh (2004) and David Frost (1993). Calcavecchia (1997), Brandel Chamblee (1998) and Gene Sauers (2002) picked up wins in Vancouver.

Jobe Heads into Calgary on Winning Note

Brandt Jobe picked up his second PGA TOUR Champions title on Sunday at the Boeing Classic, thanks to a final-round 63 that allowed him to make up a seven-shot deficit to local favorite Fred Couples. Couples, who grew up in Seattle, collapsed on Sunday with five bogeys and a closing 76. Jobe, who moved from No. 24 to No. 14 in the Charles Schwab Cup, has a history of success in Canada as a young professional. Jobe competed on the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada in 1990, led that Tour in earnings and claimed the British Columbia Open that year before embarking on a playing career in Asia for a number of years.
