Three medals for Canada at Beach Tournament

October 03, 2022: Canada brings home three medals from the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour event in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

In Sunday’s women’s final, the United States (Molly Turner and Madelyne Anderson) won gold over Lea Monkhouse (Mississauga, ON) and Molly McBain (Toronto, ON) 2-0 (21-17, 21-19). Canada was awarded silver. 

Fellow Canadians Amanda Harnett (Burlington, ON) and Marie-Alex Bélanger (Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, QC) claimed the bronze medal over the Mexican duo Gutierrez/Ibarra 2-0 (21-17, 21-18). Earlier the two Canadian teams met in the semifinals, with McBain and Monkhouse winning 2-1 (21-12, 20-22,15-11).

On the men’s side, Jake MacNeil (Georgetown, ON) and Alex Russell (Surrey, BC) came from behind to win the bronze medal over Dominicans Jose Martinez and Francisco De Jesus 2-1 (14-21, 21-14, 15-8). USA won gold and Cuba the silver medal. 

The NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour awards points to participating teams to qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador and the Pan American Games in Chile, both events to be held in 2023. Punta Cana was the fourth 2022 stop on the tour.
