TORONTO, Ont. (November 21, 2022) – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the 13 athletes attending a Senior Women’s National Team training camp this week from November 21-24, 2022, during FIBA’s International Window for Women’s Basketball.

The camp will be held in downtown Toronto at Kerr Hall on the campus of Toronto Metropolitan University.

Despite not having an official FIBA competition scheduled during this window, the organization recognizes the importance of bringing the players together to continue their development and training, both individually and as a program.

This past summer, the team finished fourth at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, their highest finish at the event since a third-place finish in 1986.

The team will now turn their focus to next summer’s FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023 (July 1-9, 2023) as they begin the process to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.  Canada finished fourth at the AmeriCup back in 2021 after claiming silver in 2019.  Prior to that, the team captured back-to-back gold medals at the competition in 2015 and 2017.

In addition to members of the Senior Women’s National Team core, several NextGen athletes have also been invited to participate in the camp as the program continues to look ahead to the Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The camp will feature a mix of both on-court team practices, and individual skill-based performance sessions, as well as off-court activations including team events, meetings and appearances.

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team is ranked fifth in the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike, after the rankings were updated following the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
