  • Team BC Athletics applications
  • Train with an Olympian

The Team BC NAIG program provides 545 Indigenous athletes, coaches, and mission staff from across BC with an incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a major international sport competition and to share and celebrate their cultural heritages with other youth from across the continent.  Team BC’s performance at both the Regina 2014 NAIG and the Toronto 2017 NAIG resulted in winning the Overall Team Award!

With the approaching Halifax 2020 NAIG, Team BC has resumed planning and activities for athlete selection processes. The annual series of BC Indigenous Provincial Championships and Athlete Development Camps, held in various communities across the province, will once again support the Indigenous Team BC program.

Athlete opportunity to train with Olympian

Athletic athletes (Track & Field and Cross-Country) are encouraged to attend the 2020 BC Indigenous Provincial Athletics Development Camp (Kamloops, BC), if possible. The Team BC coaches will facilitate a one day development camp that includes a running and throwing clinic.

Olympian, PanAm Games and Commonwealth Games athlete Dylan Armstrong will be coaching at this camp.

Following the camp, the Van Ryswick Invitational event is being held at the Tournament Capital Centre (optional). You can use competition results at this event as part of your Team BC application (i.e. Expression of Interest).

The 2020 BC Indigenous Provincial Athletic Development Camp serves as an opportunity for Team BC coaching staff to meet interested youth, and observe and evaluate their skills and technique. Attendance at the BC Indigenous Provincial Athletic Development Camp is not mandatory and does not automatically enter a youth into consideration for Team BC. Athletes will still be required to complete a formal Athlete Expression of Interest form.

BC Indigenous Provincial Athletic Development Camp details: Hosted in partnership with Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc, BC Athletics and with the support of the Province of BC. Pre-Registration is required.

Location: Tournament Capital Centre, 910 McGill Road, Kamloops, BC
Age Group: Youth age 11-18
