Team Ontario is pleased to announce Steve Sevor as the 2021 Chef de Mission for the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games.

Steve Sevor is no stranger to Team Ontario nor to the Canada Games. The 2021 Games will mark Sevor’s seventh Canada Games as a member of the volunteer Mission Team. Sevor has participated in both winter and summer
editions of the bi-annual event since 2007 serving as Mission Staff, Core  Team Lead, Assistant Chef de Mission and now Chef de Mission.

Apart from his participation in the Canada Games, Sevor has deep roots within the sport sector as an athlete, coach, non-profit president,  administrator and public servant. A long-time Assistant Director at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA), he is  experienced in the multi-sport environment and it is one in which he feels comfortable in.

Sevor is currently the Manager of Sport Services for the City of Hamilton where he manages a team responsible for the allocation of sport facilities, implementation of sport development initiatives, execution of special sporting events, operation of three municipal golf courses and is responsible for the food services program in the City’s arenas.

The Niagara Region is a homecoming of sorts for Sevor. The former captain of Brock University Men’s Soccer team and Assistant Coach of the school’s 2002 National Championship team is a graduate of the school. Steve’s familiarity with the region will bode well for Team Ontario’s preparation leading into 2021.

Sevor has a wide range of experience in the Ontario sport sector and he is primed to take advantage of this great opportunity to lead the next generation of athletes at their home games.

“It is a true honour to have been selected as the Chef de Mission for Team Ontario as we prepare for the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games. Having been selected as the Chef de Mission is gratifying in itself, but the added element of being the Chef of the host province/territory is an added responsibility that makes this appointment even more special. Having worked alongside many Mission Staff and previous Chef’s that share the same passion for the Canada Games, I can tell you that it is an absolute privilege to be able to lead our team in our own backyard in front of the entire nation.”

Sevor’s immediate focus is on building a high-functioning Mission Staff team that will provide the greatest level of support to Ontario’s competing teams, coaches, and managers. “If we can allow our athletes and teams to focus on their competitive environments and benefit from this developmental opportunity, then that is success to me.”

Steve will work closely with the Ministry Games Unit to oversee the planning for the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games in what will be a great experience for our Ontario athletes. Please join us in congratulating Steve.

Please note that the process to select an Assistant Chef as well as Mission Staff will be posted on the Sport Information Resource Centre website in the coming months.
