Sport Manitoba – Over 300 Manitoban Athletes to Compete

July 24, 2019 – WINNIPEG, MB – Team Manitoba has announced the Opening Ceremonies flag bearer and unveiled their team uniform for the Western Canada Summer Games (WCSG) occurring on August 9-18, 2019 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

“All the hard work from the athletes, coaches, volunteers and Games staff has led up to this moment,” said Sport Manitoba President & CEO Jeff Hnatiuk. “We are very excited to cheer on Team Manitoba as they compete at these Games and we will support them every step of the way.”

Team Manitoba is sending over 300 athletes, 44 coaches, 14 managers, four tech support, and 21 mission staff to participate in 19 sports over the duration of the 2019 WCSG.

Swimmer and past Games alumni Quinlan Roberts (La Salle) is Team Manitoba’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremonies.

“From being 14-years-old and one of the youngest athletes on the team at the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Vancouver, to now being selected as the flag bearer for Team Manitoba for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games is such an honour,” said Roberts. “I am really excited for the Games and looking forward to racing, bonding with my teammates, seeing the sights around Swift Current and overall having a great time.”

Chef de Mission, Patrick Kirby, has been involved in Games for over 30 years and these Games mark his first year as a Chef.

“Quinlan’s leadership, hard work and dedication to her sport solidified her as an excellent representative for Team Manitoba at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games’ Opening Ceremonies,” said Kirby. “Our team has been training extremely hard in preparation for these Games. We’re proud of our Herd and are excited to see the results of their hard work in Swift Current next month.”

Also unveiled today was Team Manitoba’s walkout uniform for the Games. Mondetta Clothing, Team Manitoba’s official uniform provider, designed seven pieces for this year’s squad: a jacket, two T-shirts, pants, shorts, a baseball hat and backpack, that make the Herd the best outfitted team at the Games.
