Budapest, April 8, 2021 – The members of the Canadian artistic swimming team will continue their preparation towards the Tokyo Olympic Games this weekend as they will participate in the 2nd leg of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2021, on Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11.
After more than a year and a half without competition, the last one being at the Pan American Games in July 2019, where they qualified for Tokyo, Claudia Holzner and Jacqueline Simoneau will dive back into the action by competing in the following events:
- Technical Solo (Jacqueline)
- Free Solo (Jacqueline)
- Technical duet (Jacqueline & Claudia)
- Free Duet (Jacqueline & Claudia)
This step is extremely important in the preparation of the two swimmers, as Claudia Holzner says she is very excited to show what they have prepared for the Olympic Games. “We are really excited to get back in the pool, in a competition environment, and show what we have created for the Games this summer. The competition in Budapest is all about getting back to the feeling of competing. We want to feel some of the pressure that we will feel at the Games, so we can be ready for what comes next.”
Jacqueline Simoneau also sees the competition as great practice for August. “We wouldn’t have wanted the Olympics to be our first competition since the Pan American Games in Lima. We are ready to compete, we have been working on our Olympic routines for over a year. ”
The 4-time 2019 Pan American Games gold medalist believes in what she has to present and aims for nothing less than gold medals. “We are going there to win. If we execute our routines the way we are capable of doing, I think we have a very good chance of coming back with four gold medals. ”
Hungary, Austria, Russia, Slovakia, Israel and Serbia will also be in action over the weekend, unlike Ukraine and Japan who have already confirmed they will not be participating.
