  • Number of best-ever Canadian results at an Olympic Winter Games: 17 (across nine different sports)
  • Isabelle Weidemann captured Team Canada’s first medal at Beijing 2022. It was Canada’s 200th medal all-time at the Olympic Winter Games.
  • Max Parrot and Mark McMorris (snowboard) and Cassie Sharpe and Rachael Karker (freestyle skiing) secured double podiums at the Games.
  • WIth four medals won (one gold and three bronze), Team Canada had its most successful Day 3 at an Olympic Winter Games.
  • Following a bronze medal in ski jumping, Canada joined the United States in having won at least one medal across 14 Olympic winter sports — the most among all National Olympic Committees.
  • Canada won four medals (2 silver, 2 bronze) on Day 6 at Beijing 2022 matching Turin 2006 (2 silver, 2 bronze) for the most number of medals won on a Day 6 at an Olympic Winter Games.

MILESTONES BY SPORT:

Alpine Skiing

  • Jack Crawford’s fourth place finish in men’s downhill alpine skiing is Team Canada’s best result since Ed Podivinsky won bronze at Lillehammer 1994.
  • Crawford won Canada’s first-ever Olympic medal in the men’s alpine combined event. 

Biathlon

  • Scott Gow’s 5th place finish in the men’s 20km individual biathlon event is a Canadian Olympic record. He also tied Canada’s best-ever Olympic result in any men’s biathlon event (Jean-Philippe Le Guellec in men’s 10km sprint at Sochi 2014).
  • The men’s 4×7.5km relay team of Adam Runnalls, Christian Gow, Scott Gow and Jules Burnotte placed 6th which is a best-ever Olympic result for Canada in the event. The previous record was 7th at Sochi 2014.

Bobsleigh

  • Christine de Bruin and Cynthia Appiah made history as the first Canadians to compete in monobob.
  • de Bruin is the first Canadian to win an Olympic medal in women’s monobob, which made its Olympic debut at Beijing 2022.
  • Justin Kripps became the first Canadian pilot to win Olympic medals in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh.

Curling

  • Brad Gushue and Mark Nichols set an Olympic Winter Games record for Canada for the longest time between medals – 16 years.
  • Team Canada’s bronze in men’s curling is Canada’s sixth Olympic medal in the event. 

Cross-Country Skiing

  • Katherine Stewart-Jones, Dahria Beatty, Cendrine Browne and Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt mixed together for an eighth place finish in the women’s 4×5 km race– Canada’s best Olympic relay result since Salt Lake City 2002.
  • Antoine Cyr and Graham Ritchie’s fifth-place in the men’s team sprint (classic) is Canada’s best-ever result. Our country’s previous best was an 11th place finish by George Grey and Devon Kershaw at Turin 2006.
  • Cendrine Browne’s 16th-place finish is Canada’s best-ever result in the women’s 30km mass start (free).

Freestyle Skiing

  • Mikaël Kingsbury became the first male freestyle skier to win three Olympic medals. He is only the second to do so in any freestyle skiing discipline (following Norwegian mogulist Kari Traa).
  • Marion Thénault, Miha Fontaine and Lewis Irving won bronze in the Olympic debut of the mixed team aerials event. It is Canada’s first Olympic aerials medal since Veronica Brenner and Deidra Dionne won silver and bronze, respectively, in the women’s event at Salt Lake City 2002.
  • Cassie Sharpe and Rachael Karker secured Canada’s first ever double podium in women’s ski halfpipe with a silver and bronze, respectively.
  • Sharpe is the first Canadian to win multiple Olympic medals in the event following her gold at PyeongChang 2018.

Ice Hockey

  • Ann-Renée Desbiens set the Canadian record for saves in an Olympic hockey game (men’s and women’s ice hockey) with 51 saves during the CAN-US women’s ice hockey preliminary game.
  • With 57 goals, Canada broke its own record for the most scored in a women’s Olympic hockey tournament since Vancouver 2010 (48). 
  • Brianne Jenner scored her ninth goal for the tournament, tying the all-time record set by Canadian Meghan Agosta and Switzerland’s Stephanie Marty at Vancouver 2010.
  • Team Canada won its fifth gold medal in Olympic women’s hockey since it was added to the program at Nagano 1998.
  • Sarah Nurse set the record for most points scored (18) at a single Olympic Winter Games. The previous record (17) was held by Hayley Wickenheiser at Turin 2006.
  • Marie-Philip Poulin has now scored in every gold medal game she’s played in at the Olympic Winter Games (2010, 2014, 2018, 2022). She’s the first (and only) player male or female to score in four Olympic gold medal games.

Ski Jumping

  • Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes finished 16th place in men’s normal hill which is his best-ever result at an Olympic Winter Games.
  • Canada won its first-ever Olympic medal in ski jumping with a bronze in the Olympic debut of the mixed team event. The previous best-ever Canadian result in ski jumping was a 7th place finish by Horst Bulau in the men’s individual large hill event at Calgary 1988.
  • This is the first Olympic ski jumping medal won by a North American country since Chamonix 1924.

Snowboard

  • Canada now leads all National Olympic Committees with five Olympic medals in men’s snowboard slopestyle (one gold, one silver, three bronze).
  • Mark McMorris’ third-straight Olympic bronze in men’s slopestyle has earned him the title of most-decorated Canadian Olympic snowboarder. He is the oldest medallist in the event (28 years, 59 days). 
  • McMorris is the first to win three consecutive bronze medals in the same individual event at the Olympic Winter Games. He is only the third Olympian, winter or summer, to do so.
  • Max Parrot was crowned Team Canada’s first-ever men’s slopestyle champion. He is the oldest gold medallist in men’s slopestyle snowboarding (27 years, 245 days).
  • Team Canada has won a medal in all but one Olympic women’s snowboard cross event since it made its debut at Turin 2006.
  • Éliot Grondin won Canada’s second-ever Olympic medal in men’s snowboard cross. The other was also a silver won by Mike Robertson at Vancouver 2010.
  • Grondin and Meryeta O’Dine won bronze in the inaugural mixed team snowboard cross event.
  • With a bronze, Max Parrot won Canada’s second medal in the men’s Olympic snowboard big air event.
  • Jasmine Baird and Laurie Blouin set Canadian best-ever results in women’s big air by placing 7th and 8th respectively – Canada’s previous best-ever result was 9th by Spencer O’Brien at PyeongChang 2018.

Speed Skating – Long Track

  • Isabelle Weidemann won Team Canada’s fourth Olympic medal in the women’s 3000m event (Cindy Klassen in 2002 and 2006, Kristina Groves in 2010 – all bronze).
  • Weidemann won Canada’s first medal in the women’s 5000m long track speed skating event since Vancouver 2010. She is only the third Canadian ever to win a medal in the women’s 5000m event (Clara Hughes, Cindy Klassen).
  • Canada has won its first-ever Olympic gold medal in the women’s long track speed skating team pursuit event. It is Canada’s second all-time Olympic medal in the event (Silver – Turin 2006).
  • Weidemann is the second-ever Canadian to win gold, silver and bronze medals at an Olympic Winter Games. (Cindy Klassen – Turin 2006).
  • Valérie Maltais has become just the third athlete in the world to ever win Olympic medals in short track and long track speed skating. She joins Eric Flaim USA (long track 1988, short track 1994) and Jorien ter Mors NED (long track 2014 + 2018, short track 2018).
  • With a silver in the men’s 1000m, Laurent Dubreuil joins three other Canadians who won Olympic medals in this event – William Logan (Silver – Lake Placid 1932), Gaétan Boucher (Gold – Sarajevo 1984, Silver – Lake Placid 1980) and Denny Morrison (Silver – Sochi 2014).
  • Ivanie Blondin’s silver is Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in the mass start. 
  • Jordan Belchos finished 13th in the men’s mass start, Canada’s best Olympic result in the event.

Speed Skating – Short Track

  • With a bronze medal in the 500m event, Kim Boutin became the second Canadian female short track speed skater to earn four Olympic medals following Tania Vicent.
  • With a silver, Steven Dubois has won Team Canada’s third-ever Olympic medal in the men’s 1500m.
  • Steven Dubois won Canada’s seventh Olympic medal all time in the men’s 500m event.
  • With his sixth Olympic medal, Charles Hamelin: 
    • Tied Cindy Klassen (long track speed skating) as Canada’s most decorated Winter Olympian and is Canada most decorated male Winter Olympian;
    • Tied Andre De Grasse (athletics) as Canada’s most decorated male Olympian;
    • Stands alone as Canada’s most decorated Olympic short track speed skater;
    • Became the first male short track speed skater to win a medal in five different Olympic Winter Games (Arianna Fontana of Italy did it earlier in Beijing);
    • Joined Hayley Wickenheiser (hockey), Jayna Hefford (hockey) and Caroline Ouellette (hockey) as the only Canadian Olympians (winter or summer) to have won four gold medals.
  • Canada earned its first gold medal in the men’s 5000m relay since Charles Hamelin, Guillaume Bastille, François Hamelin, Olivier Jean and François-Louis Tremblay won it at Vancouver 2010.
  • The gold medal is the seventh Olympic medal Canada has won in the men’s 5000m relay since it was added to the Olympic program at Albertville 1992. Canada only missed the podium at Lillehammer 1994 and Sochi 2014 and has more medals in the event than any other country.
