BC (January 15, 2020) – The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity &
Recreation Council (I∙SPARC) is pleased to announce the Player Selection
Camp for Team
BC’s participation in the 2020 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships
(NAHC). The 2020 NAHC will be hosed in Regina, Saskatchewan from May 9 –
16, 2020.
2020 Team BC PLAYER SELECTION CAMP:
Top Indigenous male and female hockey players are invited participate in
the 2002 Team BC Player Selection Camp where players will be evaluated
and selected over a three-day period by the Team BC Coaching staff. Team
BC is seeking 20 male and 20 female athletes
to represent BC at the NAHC.
The 2020 Selection Camp will be held March 27-29, 2020 at the
Canlan Ice Sport South Cariboo Recreation Centre in 100 Mile House, BC.
Players must meet the following criteria to be eligible for participation in the NAHC:
- Resident of British Columbia and of Aboriginal ancestry (First Nations, Inuit, Métis). Acceptable proof of ancestry includes Status card, Treaty card, Provincial Métis Card, Inuit or Inuvialuit identification. For those with a card, a formal Declaration of Ancestry may be completed with supporting documentation (form available upon request).
- Registered or eligible to be registered with BC Hockey. (Players not registered with BC Hockey for 2019/20 season may register via this camp for an additional fee of $40)
- Male: Bantam or Midget age, as of the 2019/20 competitive season (born 2002 to 2006)*
- Female: Bantam or Midget age, as of the 2019/20 competitive season (born 2002 to 2006)*
*This
is a program primarily for Midget aged hockey players (born 2002-2004),
but Bantam age players are eligible to compete in the
NAHC. As a competitive selection camp, Midget and Bantam players will
be competing amongst one another for a position on the team. For safety
reasons, bantam aged players (born 2005-2006) must be approved by the
coaching staff before they can participate in
the camp. The coaching staff will consider the player’s size and
competitive experience in rendering a decision. Bantam registrants will
be notified via email as soon as possible regarding approval.
Registration:
The Camp Registration Fee is $120 per player and includes a Team BC
Selection Camp jersey. Pre-registration is mandatory as no ‘walk-ins’
will be accepted. For more information and online registration, please

National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC)
The NAHC provides a forum for elite Bantam/Midget age Aboriginal hockey
players from across Canada. The event aids in fostering cultural unity
and pride and celebrates the athletic abilities of Aboriginal athletes
from across the country. Team BC is represented
by ONE MALE team and ONE FEMALE team which comprise the top
bantam/midget aged players from across the province.
Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I∙SPARC)
I·SPARC is a consortium of the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship
Centres, First Nations Health Authority, and Métis Nation BC. As the
stewards of BC’s Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity
Strategy, I·SPARC works with First Nations, Métis
Chartered Communities, Friendship Centres, schools and other sport and
physical activity stakeholders to deliver community-based programs
designed to promote active lifestyles and support the desire for
transformative change in the health and well-being of
Indigenous communities, families and individuals across BC.
