Dec. 10, 2019 – Winnipeg, MB – Sport Manitoba Performance will host Manitoba’s only
para-sport testing combine this Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1–3 p.m. at Sport Manitoba. This free combine will give participants the baseline knowledge
necessary to improve their overall fitness and performance.
“This combine is a big part of how we aim to develop athletes and make
sport accessible in our diverse sport community,” said Sport Manitoba
President & CEO Jeff Hnatiuk. “It will serve as an important
opportunity for para-sport athletes to test themselves
and discover how they can achieve their athletic, health and fitness
goals.”
Some of the testing drills include:
- Grip strength
- Speed & Change of Direction
- Peak Power (Press & Row)
- Forward/Lateral Med Ball Toss
“We
want to increase accessible training and kick-start our para-fitness
and para-performance services,” said Sport Manitoba Sport Performance
Specialist Neal Prokop.
“These services are being implemented to provide a premiere training
facility for all individuals to improve strength and conditioning. We
believe these services will encourage participation in the variety of
para-sports available through our sport partners
and provincial sport organizations.”
Sport Manitoba Performance’s para-fitness and para-performance programs are set to launch in 2020.
“As a para-athlete myself, I know how physical activity and sports
helped me to see beyond my limitations and focus more on what I can
still do,” said Sport Manitoba Para-Strength Coach Art Monforte. “During
this combine, the participants will have an opportunity
to test their overall body strength, power, speed and agility. I hope
para-athletes and individuals take advantage of this event, not just to
test their skills, but to spend time together sharing experiences and
motivating each other.”
The combine is open to those of any level or age who are interested in trying para-fitness or para-sport exercises. Each station is optional and can be modified to suit the individual’s needs. Those
interested in participating can register for free by emailing
