Sport Manitoba – Oct. 3, 2019 – WINNIPEG, MB – The Sport Manitoba Clinic has joined over 500 Walk with a Doc chapters as Manitoba’s very first. This doctor-led walking group is a free, safe place where anyone is welcome to join in a leisurely walk with Sport Manitoba Clinic’s physician, Dr. Gail Sawa, for an opportunity to get to know her and ask their health-related questions.
“This is a chance for people to get their health questions answered while getting to know the Sport Manitoba Clinic and our physician in an environment that is comfortable and enjoyable,” said Sport Manitoba’s Clinic Director and Senior Therapist, Rickie Walkden. “It’s something we are happy to pioneer in our province. It makes health more accessible and we can connect with people in a meaningful way.”
Walk with a Doc is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire communities through movement and conversation.
The first walk in Winnipeg takes place on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. where participants will meet in the Sport Manitoba lobby at 145 Pacific Avenue. No registration for the walk is required.
“I’m very excited to meet members of our community over the next several months as we begin this walking group,” said Dr. Gail Sawa. “It’s a great opportunity to get in some exercise, learn about health and meet new friends.”
Walks will be outdoors unless weather conditions require them to be moved inside, in which case the Sport Manitoba Fitness Centre track on the fourth floor of the Sport Manitoba building will be used.
