Siobhan O’Connor Named Dressage Volunteer of the Month for August 2019
Equestrian Canada – Ottawa, ON, Sept. 3, 2019 – Equestrian Canada is pleased to announce that Siobhan O’Connor of Medicine Hat, AB, has been selected as the August 2019 recipient of the Dressage Volunteer of the Month Award.
As a great asset to the southern Alberta dressage community, O’Connor is currently the only Chinook Country Dressage Director for the Medicine Hat area. In 2017, O’Connor approached the Chinook Country/Alberta Dressage Association (CC/ADA) to help obtain resources for an annual dressage show to be held in the Medicine Hat area. Taking on this role included:
- Filling the roles of show manager and key organizer for the Cypress & Medicine Hat Dressage Show 2017-2019. This involved all components of organizing and running the show with CC/ADA as a key sponsor.
- Acting as a liaison with the Medicine Hat District Agricultural Show, Dressage Division.
- Actively participating in the business of CC/ADA, including attending meetings and coordinating activities.
Furthermore, O’Connor volunteered to fill the position of Vice President of the Alberta Dressage Association in 2018. She has also served on the Mane Event Committee to organize the dressage division of this popular event hosting horse trainers and educators from across North America.
In addition to all of these varied volunteer roles, O’Connor scribed at three dressage shows in 2017, all of which make her a huge asset to dressage at the grassroots level. In the words of the nominators, she not only qualifies as volunteer of the month, but as volunteer of the year.
Many thanks to O’Connor for her strong work ethic and support of dressage in her local area; she is a more deserving recipient of this recognition.

Nominations for the award are accepted until the 20th day of each month, making September 20th the next deadline to submit the name of a volunteer who has made a difference to the sport of dressage.
