Gymnastics Canada – CALGARY, AB (May 5, 2019) – Gymnastics Canada is honoured to announce our award winners in trampoline gymnastics for 2019. The winners were presented with their awards on Saturday night as part of the 2019 Elite Canada competition taking place at the Genesis Centre in Calgary, AB.

SENIOR ATHLETE & COACH OF THE YEAR:

Rosie MacLennan (King City, ON). COACH: Dave Ross

Rosie MacLennan from Skyriders Trampoline Place, the reigning Olympic champion in women’s trampoline, had a fantastic season in 2018 which she capped off by winning her second individual trampoline World Championship title in St. Petersburg, Russia. At that competition, she won one medal of each colour – gold in individual, silver in synchro with Sarah Milette, and bronze in the inaugural team event. This year, she started off the season winning a silver medal in individual trampoline at a World Cup in Baku.

QUOTE: “It’s a huge honour to be awarded Athlete of the Year. I had an incredibly positive experience last year – especially at the World Championships. While I’ve had a recent set back with the fall in Belarus, I’m excited to continue to build towards the rest of the season and next year.”

JUNIOR ATHLETE & COACH OF THE YEAR:

Jérémy Chartier (Montreal, QC). COACH: Karina Kosko

Jérémy Chartier from Virtuouse Centre Acrobatique had the high honour of being selected to carry the Canadian flag into the Opening Ceremonies of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires last summer – shortly after winning his third-straight Canadian junior title in individual trampoline, and winning gold at the 2018 Junior Pan American Championships. Following the Youth Olympic Games, Jérémy began competing as a senior, and went on to win a bronze medal in the team event at the 2018 World Championships in Russia. This past April, Jérémy made his senior World Cup debut and finished an impressive 15th out of 90 competitors at a World Cup in Minsk.

QUOTE: “Winning the 2018 Junior Athlete of the Year award made me very happy because even though now I’m a senior and on the national team, I think it’s a great way to finish that stage of my life which lasted for more than four years. It’s like a pat on the back, and a big congratulations for everything I accomplished.”
