REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR TEAM BC NAIG “SCORECARD SPORTS”!

Exciting news! April 2, 2023 will be the new registration deadline for participants to register for the “Scorecard Sports” in the Team BC system. 

For these sports, the athlete competes in events, receives a result that they can then upload to their Team BC profile in our registration system.  

The list of Scorecard Sports is: 

  • 3D Archery 
  • Athletics (Track & Field) 
  • Badminton 
  • Golf 
  • Rifle Shooting 
  • Swimming 
  • Wrestling 

Each sport has a specific selection process. Please make sure you have read through the Athlete Selection Process document for your sport. These documents can be found listed on our website. You can access these documents by clicking HERE, and then clicking on your sport of choice in the sidebar.

2023 BC Indigenous Provincial
Rifle Shooting Camp

Upcoming Registration Deadline! 

Thursday, March 9, 2023 is the DEADLINE to register online for our upcoming 2023 BC Indigenous Provincial Rifle Shooting Camp!

All athletes interested in rifle shooting are invited to attend this camp. This is also an OPTIONAL development opportunity for athletes wishing to tryout for Team BC. It is a great opportunity for our Team BC Head Coach to meet interested youth, and observe their skills and technique in both developmental and competitive match scenarios. 

WHO: Open to all male and female Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) youth born 2004-2010.

WHEN: Saturday, March 11 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday, March 12 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

WHERE: Abbotsford Fish and Game Club.

UPDATE: Equipment for the camp will now be provided. You do not need to bring your own Rifle.

 Are you looking to improve your Archery skills? Don’t miss out on our upcoming 2023 BC Indigenous Provincial Archery Athlete Development Camp, hosted in partnership with BC Archery!

All athletes interested in learning more about the sport of Archery are invited to attend. This event is also an OPTIONAL event for athletes hoping to attend NAIG 2023, and is a great opportunity to learn from our Team BC coaches.

WHO: Open to all male and female Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) youth born 2004-2010.

WHEN: Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

WHERE: HD Stafford Archery Club (20441 Grade Crescent Langley) and Langley Rod & Gun Club (3854 – 208 Street Langley).

Basketball

Five (5) regional selection camps took place in October and November 2022. The Provincial Selection Camp took place November 26/27, 2022. Thank you to all athletes, coaches and volunteers who supported the event. The athlete turnout and regional representation was great!  

Canoe/Kayak

Event postponed. Future date and information will be available shortly. 

Golf

Lacrosse (Box)

DECLARATION OF ANCESTRY 

A Declaration of Ancestry is required by all Team BC participants for the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). This Declaration of Ancestry must be provided in advance of the event (per the date specified by Team BC). 

A Declaration of Ancestry is the formal process to declare your ancestry and provide any supporting documentation that proves your ancestry.

IMPORTANT NOTE: COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICY FOR 2023 NAIG

2023 NAIG has a COVID-19 vaccination policy for all athletes, coaches, chaperones, mission staff and other participants. 

This Policy on Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines for all participants has been developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its objective is to maintain the health and safety of NAIG participants and other stakeholders who engage in the 2023 NAIG. This policy has been created and will be in effect for the duration of the 2023 NAIG event. 

ABSENTEE FORM

Athletes who, for extennuating circumstances, are unable to participate in the Camp / Championships and would like to be considered for Team BC must do the following: 

  1. First register for the camp that they would be attending and pay the registration fee. NOTE: You must apply for an absentee status prior to registration closing (two (2) days before the start of the camp). 
  2. Then, apply for “Absentee” consideration by emailing teambc@isparc.ca. Please note extenuating circumstances may include injury, illness, domestic affliction, conflict with a major competition / event, forest fires, etc.). Absentee forms are put before the Provincial Sport Committee for consideration. Submitting an absentee form does not guarantee the athlete will move forward to the next round.

ABOUT 2023 NAIG

NAIG will be the largest multi-sport and cultural event ever to be held in Atlantic Canada. More than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team staff from 756 Indigenous nations will take part in cultural celebrations, and compete in 16 sports across 21 venues, with the help of 3,000 volunteers. 2020 NAIG was originally due to take place from July 12 to 18, 2020 in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), and Millbrook First Nation, Nova Scotia and has now been set to take place July 15 to 23, 2023. Team BC has taken part in every NAIG since its inception in 1990. We look forward to bringing another outstanding team to Halifax. Did you know, at the 2014 NAIG in Regina, Saskatchewan, Team BC made history as the first team to be awarded both the Overall Team Award (for most medals) and the John Fletcher Spirit Award for being voted team with most integrity and sportsmanship. Let’s keep the tradition going!
