Quebec has claimed gold over British Columbia at the 2022 Canadian Mixed Pairs Championships. After four days of intense competition, Quebec will be going home victorious.

With nine teams representing seven provinces attending, the field was hotly contested. At the end of the nine-game round robin, Quebec’s Michel Larue and Songsin Tsao finished on top with a record of 7-0-1, followed by British Columbia’s Stephen Yung and Lisa Cheung in 2nd with a record of 6-0-2.  Ontario B’s Baylee van Steijn and Jake Masterson finished 3rd with a record of 5-2-1, and Ontario A’s Larry McLellan and Sharon Farrish finished in 4th with a record of 4-4-0.

Once the round robin was finished, the gold medal game of Quebec vs. British Columbia was a tight match. Despite an early 8-3 lead for Quebec, BC clawed their way back to within one, making it 9-8 after 10 ends. A neck-and-neck final half of the game eventually saw Quebec pull through with a 16-9 final score.

In the bronze medal match, Ontario B’s van Steijn and Masterson dominated the entire game. After scoring the first end, van Steijn and Masterson didn’t let off the gas for 13 ends straight, going up 19-0. Ontario A’s McLellan and Farrish eventually scored a deuce, but it was too little too late as the youthful squad of van Steijn and Masterson claimed the bronze with a final score of 22-2 after just 15 ends of play.

Bowls Canada Boulingrin would like to thank the Windsor Lawn Bowling Club for hosting these championships, as well as the inaugural Para-Bowls Championships immediately prior to the Mixed Pairs Championships. From September 11th through to the 18th, numerous bowlers of various abilities descended on Windsor and were warmly welcomed by the multiple volunteers who made these events a success.
