Ottawa Safe Sport Toolkit

OTTAWA (November 20, 2020)

The Ottawa Sport Council (OSC) is looking for trailblazing local community sport organizations to help develop an Ottawa Safe Sport Toolkit that will serve as the gold standard for community sport in Ottawa.  With funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and with support from experts in program design, development and communications, the OSC will work with selected Ottawa based member organizations starting this fall.

The project will create a set of user-friendly resources that identify and mitigate risks, engage participants and other stakeholders (e.g., coaches, officials, administrators, volunteers), and offer the best available information. Ultimately, the Toolkit will help create the conditions for safe, fun and welcoming sport experiences for participants of all ages and abilities.

Following an analysis phase, the toolkit will be developed and implemented within the pilot organizations. If proven successful, the OSC will pursue additional funding to expand the reach and strengthen the impact for the benefit of the broader Ottawa sport community.

The Ottawa Safe Sport Toolkit will complement the Ottawa Return to Play Roadmap that was launched by the OSC this summer and has generated hundreds of website visits and resource downloads. The Roadmap was developed by 70 local sport organizations and offers a suite of tools and materials to ensure a careful and consistent return to sport in our region.

Is your Ottawa organization committed to Safe Sport? Are you interested in helping to create best practice resources to make experiences consistently better for the Ottawa sport community? If so, we want to hear from you. Please send your expression of interest by November 27, 2020.

We look forward to working with you to strengthen sport in Ottawa.
