OTTAWA, ON (Oct 7, 2021) – Table Tennis Canada (TTCAN) is proud to announce that Olivier Pineau will be joining the organization as its new Executive Director, effective November 15, 2021. Pineau joins the organization from Karate Canada where he has been their Executive Director/CEO since 2010.

“On behalf of TTCAN, I am very happy to welcome Olivier as our new Executive Director. As we are gradually rebuilding our professional staff structure, Olivier’s vast experience in amateur sport and his strong background in sports administration is exactly what we need,” said Adham Sharara, President and Chair of the Board of Directors for TTCAN.

Currently in a rebuilding phase, the Board of TTCAN has focused on establishing financial stability and fiscal responsibility for the organization as their first priority and have succeeded in reaching this achievement one year ahead of schedule. This has now allowed the organization to enter the second phase of their rebuilding plan with the gradual engagement of professional staff.

“The focus now for the organization will be to reactivate some of our programs while pushing forward our priority programs. This will be the initial main responsibility for our new Executive Director. Our Board is confident that we have the right person for the job, and we will provide all the support that Olivier needs to do the job,” stated Sharara.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Table Tennis Canada as its new Executive Director. Having dedicated most of my life to amateur and Olympic sport, I’m very excited to soon be working with and for Canada’s table tennis athletes, coaches, officials, referees, and umpires, as well as alongside the dedicated volunteers and staff supporting this dynamic organization and wonderful sport,” stated Pineau who brings extensive management experience to the role. Before joining Karate Canada, Pineau, who is also fluently bilingual, was also the Executive Director for Taekwondo Quebec for three years.

“I’m genuinely looking forward to further building on TTCAN’s existing programs, as well as further developing constructive and positive relationships with TTCAN’s various partners, members, and community. I wish to sincerely thank the Board of Directors for this opportunity to put my fourteen years of experience in sports management and leadership to great use, and I look forward to helping Table Tennis Canada soar to new heights in the years to come.”

A former international level athlete in the sport of taekwondo, Pineau is a two-time Pan American taekwondo champion, Commonwealth champion, and a six-time national champion. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in philosophy from the Université de Montréal and will be working remotely from Montreal when he joins the organization in November, with frequent trips to the national office located in the House of Sport at the RA Centre in Ottawa, ON.
