Nova Scotia Golf Association – As the 2019 competitive season has come to a close, the NSGA is pleased to announce the 2019 NSGA Player of the Year Awards.
 
The Player of the Year (POY) is a ranking system that awards points to players based on tournament results throughout the golfing year. It is designed to promote golf development through competition and celebrate the individual achievements of golfers in Nova Scotia.

NSGA COBRA/PUMA Junior Girls Player of the Year

 
 

 
Abbey Baker, Ashburn Golf Club
 
Abbey Baker had a stellar 2019 season and managed to sweep the Junior Girls POY series in the process. There was hardly a tournament where her name wasn’t atop the leaderboard. Abbey claimed 6 first place finishes this season, including the MJT Chester – Bantam division, the Truro, Ashburn, and Oakfield Junior Invitationals, the Ashburn Junior Girls Club Championship, and the MJT Atlantic Championship at Fox Harb’r. At the 2019 COBRA/PUMA Junior Girls Championship Abbey took home the Bantam Girls title, and finished 2nd overall. Abbey also represented Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canadian Junior Girls Championship. Congratulations on all your accomplishments this season Abbey! 

 
 
NSGA COBRA/PUMA Junior Boys Player of the Year

 
 

Jake Smith, Ashburn Golf Club
 
Provincial Team Member, Jake Smith from Ashburn Golf Club captured his first Cobra Puma Junior Boys’ Player of the Year title this season. Smith finished in the top three in 5 out of his 7 competitive events. Jake claimed top spot at the MJT Chester event, a couple second place finishes at the Ken-Wo Junior Invitational and the MJT Atlantic Championship at Fox Harb’r, and 3-third place spots at the US Kids Teen Qualifier at Penn Hills, the Sketchers Junior Series at Northumberland, and at the Future Links Atlantic Championship. At the 2019 COBRA/PUMA Junior Boys Championship, Smith placed 5th in the Juvenile division, and 11th overall. Jake also competed in the 2019 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, and the Future Links Quebec Championship. Congratulations Jake, on your 2019 competitive season! 

 
 
 
NSGA Women’s Player of the Year

 
 

 
Debbie Arsenault, Grandview Golf & Country Club
 
Grandview member, Debbie Arsenault has re-claimed the Women’s Player of title for 2019. Arsenault won the POY title back in 2017, and narrowly missed it in 2018. Over the competitive season, Arsenault played in 9 registered POY events, placing top 3 in five of those events. Debbie’s wins include the 2019 NSGA Women’s Senior Championship, the Grandview Ladies Club Championship, a 2nd place finish in the Amherst Ladies Invitational, and a couple 3rd place finishes at the June Bug and the Greenwood Ladies Field Day. Arsenault also represented Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canadian Women’s Senior Championship, and finished top Nova Scotian at T30. Congratulations Debbie on yet another successful competitive season!

 
 
NSGA Men’s Player of the Year

 
 

Brett McKinnon, Ashburn Golf Club
 
Brett McKinnon of Ashburn GC, has earned his first Men’s Player of the Year title this season. During the competitive season, McKinnon claimed two 2nd place finishes in both the MCT Men’s MID-Amateur Championship and the Cape Breton Road Builders Tournament. McKinnon also placed 3rd in the MCT Men’s Amateur Championship. In addition to local events, McKinnon represented Team Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canadian Men’s Amateur & Men’s Mid-Amateur Championships. McKinnon finished top Nova Scotia at the MID Amateur National Championship, placing T22. Congratulations on all your achievements this summer, Brett!

 
 
 
Junior Zone Players of the Year
 
As well as the individual Player of the Year awards, the NSGA recognizes the Junior ‘Player of the Year’ in each of nine regional zones. The following junior golfers were chosen as Zone ‘Player of the Year’ based on their tournament results during the 2019 season.
