CALGARY, ALBERTA – Canada’s best long track speed skaters begin their journey to Beijing 2022 with the 2021 Canadian Long Track Championships presented by Intact Insurance, which will take place at the Calgary Olympic Oval from October 13 to 17, 2021.

This year’s Canadian Long Track Championships – the first national level long track competition on Canadian ice since February 2020 – will feature the country’s top skaters vying to be crowned national champion in each individual distance. The results from this event will help finalize the members of the National Team and NextGen Team for the 2021-2022 season, while also serving to select the skaters who will represent Canada on the World Cup circuit this fall. It is a critical first step for athletes looking to represent Canada at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

All members of the media interested in covering the event need to apply for accreditation using the online form. The number of media members allowed on-site may be limited due to COVID-19 public health measures, so please be sure to register as soon as possible. The deadline to submit your media accreditation request is October 8, 2021.

Any questions related to media accreditation should be directed to Nicole Espenant. Additional details on a virtual pre-event media availability, tentatively scheduled for noon MT on October 8, will be communicated in the coming days.

*Please note that it will be mandatory for all accredited media to follow University of Calgary health protocols pertaining to COVID-19 to access the event. Please consult the Olympic Oval website for more information.
