We wanted to send a quick message to summarize our key takeaways from the week.
- We do not know exactly when we’ll be able to return to normal operations.
- The Government announcements this week were certainly a step in the right direction, and access to some parks and public spaces may make individual training activities easier and/or more enjoyable, but it is important to note that Athletics Manitoba sanctioned activities are NOT captured as part of the initial Phase 1 re-opening plan.
- At the moment, all public gatherings continue to be limited to 10 and social distancing regulation apply.
- The University of MB outdoor track remains closed.
- Based on our understanding of the information available, there is a chance that gathering sizes could be increased part way through the month IF things go well over the next few weeks.
- We do hope to be part of Phase 2 (as a non-contact children’s sport)
- “Seasonal non-contact children’s sports activities may operate if they maintain occupancy and activity levels that allow people to maintain a physical distance of at least two metres, except for brief exchanges.”
However there are some other important considerations to keep in mind.
- Even once we are back training, things will not be exactly back to normal.
- We need to submit a formal outline demonstrating how we will meet the Public Health regulations. This will be something we submit through Sport Manitoba and it will need to be approved by the Chief Health Officer before we are allowed to resume sanctioned activities. We are working on developing this guide/plan now and it will be submitted as soon as possible.
- For those of you in Winnipeg, please remember that unfortunately there is no guarantee that our ability to resume sanctioned activities will coincide with access to the University of MB outdoor track. We do not control that facility.
Finally, THANK YOU to everyone that has provided us with feedback through the Survey! We will be following up next week with details on a few new initiatives and projects.
We know this is a challenging time for everyone and we appreciate your patience and support while we try to get everyone back on track.
(*ahem*… literally)
All the best and stay safe,
Athletics MB
