In preparing for the 2023 Ottawa Sport Summit, we have been reflecting on the significant amount of change that community sport organizations have experienced over the last 10 years and yet some challenges are ever-present. The sport summit has been designed to celebrate the successes of our sector in the last decade, host discussion sessions regarding current challenges, and present an opportunity for innovation as we look to the future.
Since 2013, community sport organizations have been faced with challenges related to the rise of social media platforms, ongoing governance and policy challenges, risk management, increasing funding constraints, new concussion legislation, the emergence of safe sport requirements, volunteer challenges, the need for inclusive and accessible sport environments, and more.
Despite the ongoing challenges, many of which were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains true that more than 90% of Canadians continue to believe that sport has the power to be a positive influence for youth, contributes to good health, and can strengthen communities.
Our keynote speaker, Julien Leblanc, will take us to the future of community sport by diving into the potential applications of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. AI technologies are generally defined as systems that can think and act rationally, much like humans do (read more).
To date, AI technologies have been used in professional sports to conduct player performance analysis, game strategy development, talent scouting, and fan engagement (read more)! What we want to explore is how the community sport sector can benefit from AI technologies to alleviate current challenges and capacity constraints.
We invite you to join us for our sport summit, The Past, Present, and Future of Community Sport in Ottawa, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, where we will reflect on community sport and the Ottawa Sport Council over the last 10 years, discuss the current state of community sport in Ottawa, and dive into the future with innovative minds.
As always, one of the Sport Summit’s goals will be to create dialogue between attendees. In addition to creating space for reflection and future innovation, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with peers and learn from the experiences of others.
