It’s not too late! One week left to register for Healthy Living Leader Training!

Join Our Team and Become a Healthy Living Leader!I

There is only one week left to register for this year’s Healthy Living Leader Training! Our healthy living team will be bringing you the training sessions live and in person, with all the engagement, activity and laughter you’ve been missing. After attending our training, you will be eligible for up to $1000 in grant support for your Indigenous RunWalkWheel or Honour Your Health Challenge program.

  • Indigenous RunWalkWheel: choose from an 8-week program preparing participants for a 5K or a 13-week program preparing participants for a 10K Run/Walk/Wheel event.
  • Honour Your Health Challenge: develop your own 8-week program focused on physical activity, healthy eating, respecting tobacco or healthy pregnancies - past programs include creating a community cookbook, “Family Fitness Fridays,” planting medicinal tea gardens, Kick the Nic tobacco program, “Moccasin Mamas,” and many more.

Our sessions are regionally focused – we strongly recommend that you to sign up for the training dates specific to your region in order to meet fellow community champions in your area. However, if you are from the Cariboo region we encourage you to attend the Prince George session, held October 4-5. Included in this group are leaders living in or north of Williams Lake, such as Soda Creek and Quesnel, as well as communities west of Williams Lake along Highway 20 such as Riske Creek and Alexis Creek.

Here are some words of encouragement from our own healthy living leaders:

“My favourite things were the engagement and all-inclusiveness. With it being a healthy leader training program, I was nervous that everyone was going to look like they lived in the gym and being a bigger girl myself I felt so incredibly encouraged and motivated when I saw that everyone was of all shapes and sizes and colors and personalities it was truly amazing and filled my heart.”

“I felt included and part of a team immediately. It was a great experience.”

I worked with one female athlete at Thompson Rivers University who said she attributed staying in school and getting to the North American Indigenous Games to the opportunities she was provided from the Honour Your Health Challenge.

One of my students is wanting to become a Law Enforcement Officer, and she was concerned that she would not be able to keep up with the physical aspect of the program, so was considering not applying at all. She has now learned a healthier way of eating and in turn has more energy and has begun to be more active and is preparing herself for the physicality of this training. Her confidence has also improved.
