In a week that made history, Henrik and Daniel Sedin (inducted 2019) were heartwarmingly celebrated, roasted and revered during three Canucks home games as part of Sedin Week. The highlight was a special on-ice ceremony retiring Henrik and Daniel’s #33 and #22 jersey numbers, as they were officially raised to the rafters of Rogers Arena.

KATHY SHIELDS, GRANT CONNELL AND DENNY MORRISON
Kathy Shields (inducted 2013) and Grant Connell (inducted 1999) are announced as 2020 inductees into the North Shore Sports Hall of Fame.
Speed skater Denny Morrison (inducted 2015) announces his retirement from competition at the age of 34 as one of Canada’s most decorated male speed skaters.

MARK RECCHI, SCOTT NIEDERMAYER AND ELMER SPEIDEL
Mark Recchi (inducted 2017) and Scott Niedermayer (inducted 2014) are honoured with a special on-ice ceremony before a Kamloops Blazers home-game retiring their #8 and #28 jersey numbers with banners raised to the rafters of the Sandman Centre.

Elmer Speidel (inducted 2001, member of 1955 Alberni Athletics men’s basketball team) is announced as a 2020 inductee into the Basketball BC Hall of Fame in the Coach category.

PHIL MALONEY
Our condolences to the friends and family of Phil Maloney, who was once the heart and soul of the Vancouver Canucks during their Western Hockey League era.

Phil was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1968-69 Vancouver Canucks Men’s Hockey Team in 2006 and recently passed away at the age of 92.

CULTIVATING SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIPS

The Canada Soccer Hall of Fame has partnered with the BC Sports Hall of Fame to showcase Christine Sinclair’s record-breaking match-worn jersey before her return home to BC Place on Tuesday 14 April.
The authentic match-worn jersey and other mementos from the game in which she set the world’s all-time international goalscoring record will be on display for eight weeks in the lead up Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team home match in Vancouver.

OLYMPIC DAY AT THE RICHMOND OVAL
The BC Sports Hall of Fame team was also proud to participate in Olympic Day at the Richmond Oval and invite over 1,800 youth from local elementary schools to get inspired by the Olympic movement. Students had the opportunity to try out more than 15 Olympic and Paralympic sports and meet Olympic Athletes.

After setting the world’s all-time international goalscoring record and qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Canadian captain Christine Sinclair was recognized and congratulated by Canada Soccer President Steven Reed at a press conference held at the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC also chose the Hall to host their Volunteer Training night.
From parties to press conferences, pre-game celebrations to corporate meetings, the BC Sports Hall of Fame provides the perfect backdrop and location for events of all varieties.
