Ringette Canada – Charlottetown/Summerside, PEI – April 9, 2019 – The action and excitement continued on day two of the 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships in Charlottetown/Summerside, PEI today.Forty-five teams from across the country are competing for national titles in the U16 and U19 divisions, as well as the National Ringette League championship title. 

 

In the U16 division, the hometown PEI Wave team came away with another win, downing Central Alberta Sting 6-5. Summerside’s Andrea Caron posted a pair of goals for PEI. Three Alberta teams came away from the second day of play undefeated, with Zone 2 (AB) beating the Cyclones de Quebec 8-4 and Team BC (LMRL Thunder) 7-4; Team Alberta (Calgary Impulse) downing GCRA (ON) 6-5 and Calgary Crew 3-1; and Calgary Core beat Spruce Grove Rage 7-1 and Team Saskatchewan (Regina Stingers) 4-3. Airdrie’s Kennedy Rice lit up the scoring in the U16 division today, posting a hat trick and an assist in Zone 2’s win over Team BC (LMRL Thunder) and five goals in the win over the Cyclones de Quebec. After two days of play, she tops the U16 scoring with 17 points in four games.

 

In the U19 division, four teams remain undefeated after the second day of play. Laurentides (QC) downed Team Ontario (Guelph Predators) and Zone 5 GRIT (AB) 8-4; Team Alberta (Calgary Rogue) beat Edmonton Elite 5-1 and BVRA Angels (MB) 7-4; Team Saskatchewan (Regina Bandits) beat TORL Force (BC) 8-1 and Team Quebec (Rive-Sud) 5-4; and Nepean Ravens downed Zone 5 GRIT 7-6 and Calgary Rush 2-1.Delphine Aguiar (Laurentides), Hailee Parsons (Calgary Rogue) and Guelph Predators’ Claire Wyville (Morriston) continue to lead the scoring in the U19 division with 12 points each.

 

In the National Ringette League division, the Cambridge Turbos remain the only team undefeated after beating Waterloo Wildfire 7-6 in overtime and downing Ottawa Ice 9-8. Waterloo’s second game of the day also went to overtime, however they pulled a 9-8 win out over Montreal Mission. Atlantic Attack teammates Jenny Snowdon (Moncton) and Martine Caissie (Bouctouche) top the NRL scoring board with 14 points each. The Attack beat Manitoba Intact 7-2 today and were downed 10-8 by Calgary RATH.

 

Games are taking at Credit Union Place in Summerside, Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown, APM Centre in Cornwall and Pownal Sports Centre in Alexandra. Competition in all divisions started today and gold medal finals in all three divisions take place on Saturday, April 13 (U16 at 10:00 ADT in Summerside, U19 at 13:00 ADT in Charlottetown, and NRL at 15:00 ADT in Charlottetown). All-stars and the NRL Annual Awards will be announced at the closing ceremony on Saturday night in Charlottetown.
