OTTAWA, ON (December 1, 2022) – Gymnastics Canada’s initial intentions to be fully compliant with the requirements of the Abuse-Free Sport program by December 2nd have not been realized, due to unforeseen delays in implementing policy changes necessary to meet the program’s requirements. As a result, Gymnastics Canada has extended its transition period to the Abuse-Free Sport program to December 19, 2022.

“Full compliance with the independent Abuse-Free Sport program remains our highest priority” said Ian Moss, CEO for Gymnastics Canada. “While it has taken a slightly longer period to make our internal adjustments than we had hoped, we remain well within the three-month transition period allowed by our Program Signatory agreement of October 18th. We remain committed to joining Abuse-Free Sport.”

Until December 19th, Gymnastics Canada participants who have witnessed or experienced abuse will continue to have access to independent third-party services already in place through the independent reporting and complaint management process:  https://gymcan.org/programs/safe-sport/reporting
