Diving Canada – MONTREAL – Margo Erlam of Saskatoon denied Mélodie Leclerc of Montreal a golden sweep in the women’s 16-18 age group on Sunday with a victory on women’s 10-m tower to conclude the 2019 Speedo Junior Elite National.

Erlam earned 387.35 points for the win with Audrey-Ann Laquerre of Quebec City second at 364.75 and Leclerc, the one and three-metre winner, third at 362.00.

However Erlam’s score wasn’t enough to put her on the team for next month’s Pan Am Junior Championships. 

‘’I was disappointed with how I dove this whole week,’’ said Erlam, 17, who moved from Calgary to a new training base in Saskatoon this year. ‘’Today was just lucky for me because everyone else messed up. This year was a big change but I’m happy with it and I’m doing it for all the right reasons.’’

 

On men’s 16-18 one-metre, Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., was first with 503.05 with Thomas Ciprik of Pointe-Claire, Que., second at 493.80 and Cédric Fofana of Quebec City third at 491.40.

 

‘’This was my last competition at the national junior level and I wanted to finish with a bang,’’ said Povzner. ‘’It was a pretty tight competition and Thomas and Cedric put up some great scores. For me, it was my consistency that paid off today.’’

 

Benjamin Tessier of Blainville, Que., did post a golden sweep in the boys 14-15 age group with his win on one-metre. Tatiana Conn of Calgary took the women’s three-metre crown in the same age group.

 

‘’My two main events were done so I felt more relaxed today,’’ said Tessier, 14 who earned 409.05 points with Carson Paul of Victoria second at 353.70 and Olivier Gauthier of Montreal third at 351.60.

 

‘’That was my best competition on one-metre this year.’’

 

On three-metre, Conn collected a second victory with 433.95. Katelyn Fung of London, Ont., was second at 426.80 and Marie-Laurence Forest of Quebec City was third at 404.50.

 

‘’I was happy to pull out another gold,’’ said Conn, who was battling an ear infection this weekend. ‘’I wasn’t feeling 100 percent, and did not have a good practice this morning. But I was calm and focused for the final.’’

 

Along with national titles, the divers were also battling for spots on Canada’s team for the Pan Am Junior Championships August 22-25 in Santiago, Chile.
