DAY 1 QUOTES OF THE DAY:

AJ ASSADIAN (Bronze Medalist: Taekwondo – Men’s Individual Poomsae) on becoming the first- ever Canadian to win a Pan Am Games medal in poomsae taekwondo:

“This is a big honour for me. I’ve dreamt about this day for a long time and I’m so happy I was able to get on the podium today. There was a lot of pressure on my today being the first poomsae athlete ever for Canada to compete at the Pan Am Games – I tried to treat it like any other event to remove that pressure. I’m just really happy I was able to perform.”

Samantha CORNETT (Bronze Medalist: Squash – Women’s Singles) on the Governor General and other Canadian supporters present at the match:

“Very cool! It was my first time meeting the Governor General. She’s amazing, first of all, and she had a ton of Canadians with her. So we had plenty of support. I could hear it in the stands and it was pretty special.”

Craig SPENCE (Silver Medalist: Canoe Kayak – Men’s C2 1000m) on his silver medal with teammate Drew HODGES and what it means for Tokyo 2020

“Moving forward this is a big step towards Tokyo. This competition is a great learning experience about how to compete at a games and against high level competitors. Drew and I are an even stronger team after this competition and will greatly help our growth as athletes.”

Andrew SCHNELL (Bronze Medallist: Squash – Mixed doubles) on what it means to win a bronze medal with partner Holly NAUGHTON:

“I feel honoured to win a medal on behalf of team Canada but this time, it’s really nice to win a bronze with Holly because we’ve never played together. To get to this stage of the event already, it shows that we’ve got some potential as a team. So Holly played great squash and I just tried to support her as best as I could and it’s just a pleasure to play with her.”
