Sport Manitoba – Daily Media Outlook – Phase Two

Day Seven Recap

Yesterday, Team Manitoba brought home the first medal of the second phase with a bronze by Blake Harris in triathalon. Team Manitoba also scored our first gold of the phase from Vesta Orchard in the female 100m Special O. On top of that, our athletics athletes had a very successful day bringing home ten medals total. Our boys baseball team played two games yesterday, and won both of them, defeating Saskatchewan and Alberta. Our tennis teams had a slight rain delay but they did not let that stop them as they powered through singles, and mixed doubles for the day. The crowd was electric at the male and female volleyball games where both Manitoba teams defeated Saskatchewan in straight sets. Our diving team had a great day and finished off with two medals, a bronze and a silver in the men’s three metre springboard.

Story/Interview Opportunities

Athletes/Teams/Coaches To Watch

  1. Our first medal winner of phase two was Blake Harris, as he took home the bronze medal in men’s triathlon. Blake persevered and never gave up. During his first lap on the bike, his chain got caught, forcing him to get off the bike for a minute to fix it. He then climbed back onto the bike and caught up with the front runners and secured a spot on the podium.
  2. Attila Bernatsky (13) from the diving team took home the bronze medal today in men’s three metre spring board. Attila attended his first set of Games in 2017 at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg. These Games in Swift Current are extra special for Attila, as he is joined by his sister Zita on the team as well.
  3. Our Special Olympic athletes dominated in athletics today, as both Vesta Orchard and Caleb Friesen took home gold medals in the male and female 100m race.
