March 22, 2021 — This week, CBC Sports is bringing the ISU WORLD FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 to audiences across the country, offering more than 40 hours of exclusive Canadian coverage across broadcast and streaming platforms. Viewers can watch as events unfold in Stockholm, Sweden from Wednesday – Sunday, with live streams of every event available on cbcsports.ca/figureskating and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices. Extensive coverage will also be provided this weekend from CBC Sports staple ROAD TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES on CBC and the free CBC Gem streaming service. Coverage on ROAD TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES begins on Saturday, March 27 at 2 pm ET with hosts Andi Petrillo and Scott Russell leading the broadcasts. Brenda Irving will provide play-by-play commentary, and Olympian and four-time World Champion Kurt Browning will offer further analysis alongside renowned coach and choreographer Carol Lane. The action continues on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m with the Women’s Free program, and picks up again on Saturday, April 3 with a special episode of OLYMPIC GAMES REPLAY highlighting the “Golden Age” of Canadian figure skating, followed by the World Figure Skating Championships Gala.
Taking place in Stockholm, Sweden from Wednesday, March 24 – Sunday, March 28, the ISU WORLD FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 will showcase 200 of the best figure skaters from 50 countries across four disciplines. Skaters will compete for the title of World Champion and berths for the next Olympic Games in 2022 in men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs and ice dance. Three-time Canadian national medalist Keegan Messing will be Canada’s sole representative in the men’s competition, while Emily Bausback and Madeline Schizas will represent Canada in women’s singles. For pairs, two-time Canadian national champions Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro, and national medallists Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud will compete. Representing Canada in ice dance are national bronze medallists Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen, three-time Four Continents medallists Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, and national silver medallists Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha.
Following each event, fans will be treated to an episode of THAT FIGURE SKATING SHOW, a CBC Sports digital series hosted by Olympic Games medallist Dylan Moscovitch and Canadian ice dancer Asher Hill, also known for their appearances on BATTLE OF THE BLADES. The pair will bring their unique brand of humour and charm to break down skates, provide analysis and chat with special guests from the figure skating community. Audiences are encouraged to join the conversation and engage with the duo as they discuss the day’s top stories and highlights in a fun and informative way.
