Canadian U23 National Teams Announced Ahead of Inaugural GLOBL Jam in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. (July 4, 2022) – Canada Basketball announced Monday the Men’s and Women’s U23 National Teams for the inaugural GLOBL JAM international showcase.

Set to take place in Toronto from July 5-10,GLOBL JAM will shine the international spotlight on the game’s rising stars and feature women’s and men’s teams from around the world competing in an Under-23 tournament live at Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally on Sportsnet.

With a round-robin preliminary round format, Canada’s women’s team will face Belgium (July 5, 6:00 PM ET), USA (July 6, 6:00 PM ET) and France (July 7, 6:00 PM ET), while the men will take on Brazil (July 5, 9:00 PM ET), USA (July 6, 9:00 PM ET) and Italy (July 7, 9:00 PM ET).  Session passes (2 games) are on sale now via Ticketmaster.

All teams will advance to the semifinal round on Saturday, July 9, followed by the Championship games on Sunday, July 10.

Carly Clarke will assume the role of head coach for the Canadian women at GLOBL JAM, while the other members of the Senior Women’s National Team coaching staff, including program head coach Víctor Lapeña and assistant coach, Steve Baur, will also be involved, as well as Tamara Tatham and Wumi Agunbiade.  

On the men’s side, Nathaniel Mitchell will make his Canadian national team head coaching debut alongside assistant coaches Dave DeAveiro, Jamie McNeilly and Scott Morrison, as well as apprentice coach, Kalisha Keane.

Canada Basketball launched GLOBL JAM along with Sportsnet, Canada’s #1 sports media brand, as part of a multi-year innovative and unique partnership that will see the two organizations work together over the next several years to bring more basketball to Canadians, through both live events and original content.

Tipping off Friday, July 8 and running through to July 10, the GLOBL JAM FESTIVAL presented by Tangerine Bank at Yonge-Dundas Square will unite fans on and off the court and celebrate the intersection of sport, art, and culture with a 3×3 community court, a community vendor market, food trucks, music and more.
