Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Receives Ted Rogers Community Grants

This morning, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame received a $25,000 grant from Ted Rogers Community Grants helping to support its new Beyond the Win – Hall of Famers on Tour education programs. This funding will ensure that Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame can continue to reach students across Alberta who will learn from Canadian sports champions the valuable lessons that sport teaches. Larry Goerzen, President, Alberta and Prairies at Rogers Communications officially presented the cheque to Cheryl Bernard, President and CEO of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, with 50 Grades 3 and 4 students from Taradale School in attendance during their education program at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Beyond the Win – Hall of Famers on Tour, launched by Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, are free, assembly-style education presentations where Hall of Famers share their stories of how they’ve reached the pinnacle of their careers and are going “beyond their wins” to champion good in their communities. This curriculum-aligned program creates a lasting educational impact by teaching youth that performance is more than strength, speed and agility – it’s integrity, empathy and optimism. In the first six months of the program, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame reached nearly 7,000 students in Calgary and the surrounding areas. Programs are fully booked through June 2020 with a waitlist already started for the Fall 2020.

“With the support of Ted Rogers Community Grants, we can continue with our passion to promote sports champions as advocates for Canada’s shared values: respect, equality, fairness and openness. Our focus is outreach and sharing the stories of our Hall of Famers who have reached the pinnacle of their careers and are going ‘beyond their wins’ to return value to their communities and to the next generation.” said Cheryl Bernard, President and CEO of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

The Ted Rogers Community Grants program is dedicated to providing community grants to organizations across Canada that are focused on unlocking learning and leadership opportunities to aspiring young leaders. These grants support charitable organizations running innovative community programs focused on inspiring youth to continue their education and to develop skills to help them succeed.

“At Rogers, we believe that together we can make more possible for generations to come,” said Larry Goerzen, President, Alberta and Prairies at Rogers Communications. “We are pleased to partner with Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and provide support to the Beyond the Win – Hall of Famers on Tour to inspire youth in our community.”
