June 05, 2022:  Canada’s Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto) won gold today at the Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 final in Jurmala, Latvia.

It was a close contest with Barbara/Carol of Brazil until the tie-break when Canada dominated play to seal the win: 2-1 (21-19, 20-22, 15-7).  See this link for match stats.

Sarah Pavan told Volleyball TV: “Barbara and Carol are a very good team and we knew that we would have to play really well to beat them and to match them. We are just proud and excited to win this trophy today.”

Yesterday in the semi, the Canadian Olympians came back to beat Duda/Ana Patricia, also of Brazil, 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 15-10) in the tie-break. Today, Duda/Ana Patricia won the bronze medal in a 2-0 match over Hughes/Kolinske of the U.S.

The Canadians are in the hunt to defend their World title won in 2019 next week in Italy at the 2022 Beach Volleyball World Championships, from June 10 through 19 in Rome. This highlight of the beach volleyball season will feature the world’s best 48 teams per gender. Four Canadian teams have qualified for this Worlds’ main draw.
