Volleyball Canada – Manama, Bahrain, July 25, 2019 – Egypt beat Canada on Wednesday 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 26-28, 25-23) in Pool G of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.

Canada finishes with a 2-1 record this round, and will play Cuba on Friday in the consolation semifinal (with places 9-12 still up for grabs).

Canada’s coach Joao Paulo Bravo told “They tried hard for every point and in the end it finished like this. We were not playing that great but we were still fighting for every ball. In the final moments, Egypt showed more experience. … In the first set we were leading big and then they took the momentum. They were playing a little better than us and then they took the set. In the fourth it was kind of the same, battling for every point.”

Canadian captain Mathias Elser said: “I think today we missed a big opportunity. We definitely had a chance to win that match, but I think they brought a lot more energy than we did. It looked like they wanted it more than us….

“I felt that at the start of the fourth set we brought that same energy and we were definitely in it the whole time. In the end, they went on a little run and that decided it.”
