Canada Finishes Eighth overall at Pan Am Games
Volleyball Canada – Aug. 10, 2019: The United States beat Canada 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-23) for seventh place at the Pan American Games women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday. Canada finishes eighth.
“It was not our best showing of the tournament,” said Canada’s head coach Shannon Winzer.
“We were all over the place in the first two sets and we were pretty undisciplined. I didn’t think it was very good volleyball, and at the end of the day you can’t win games like that. We passed so well all tournament, and our passing was pretty much non-existent in the first two sets, which made it pretty difficult to run an offense and it was downhill from there. We regrouped in the third and I think that showed a lot of resilience.”
Canada did not improve on its placing from the last Pan Am Games – they were also eighth in Toronto 2015.
“We just really didn’t show up to play today; they outplayed us in most aspects of the game and we just couldn’t really seem to get anything going,” said Brianna Beamish, the captain of the Canadian squad.
“Overall, the experience was beneficial for a lot of girls who had never played internationally before and that was huge. A lot of people stepped up – we were still aggressive down to the last play and that’s the positive to take away.”
The tournament concludes on Sunday (Aug. 11) with the medal matches.
